Bend Marriage Counselor: Unique Holiday Gifts for Your Spouse

December 2, 2016 by

If you’ve been with your spouse for years – or even decades – coming up with creative holiday gifts is likely getting harder and harder. Sure, you’ll him the new ties he asked for, or her the traditional box of chocolates and day at the spa… but you just want to add a special touch to your gifts this year.

Well, you’re in luck. We have a few ideas for creative gifts that will not only make this holiday memorable, but will also help to grow and strengthen your relationship throughout the year. Consider putting one of these gifts under the tree:

Couple’s Spa Day and Retreat

Maybe one or both of you already go to the spa once in a while. Maybe, as we suggested above, it’s already a gift for one of you. Well, this year change things up and make it a gift-date combo by going to the spa together.

Enjoy a steamy sauna or a relaxing massage for the two of you. Use this day as a couple’s retreat without the kids: in your spa day package, include the number of a babysitter, a bottle of wine or a gift certificate to a restaurant, or the name of a bed and breakfast for the two of you to stay.

Get Out of Jail Free Card

Give this card to your spouse as a “free pass.” Whether they accidentally spend too much on a shopping spree, forget (again) to do the dishes, or commit any other minor infraction, a “get out of jail free card” can be used to spare your spouse any grief at one point throughout the year. It is a lighthearted way to prevent a silly argument in the future.

Chore Coupons

Along the same lines as the “Get Out of Jail Free” card, chore coupons (or a full coupon book) give your spouse the gift of relaxation and relieve them of any chores or duties they do not want to do.

This can be a one-time thing, or multiple coupons can be used throughout the year to give your spouse constant reminders that you are there to lend a helping hand when they need it.

Relationship Workshop

Even the strongest of couples can benefit from a relationship workshop. Just make sure you frame the gift as a way to allow the two of you to spend extra time celebrating the love you share with each other, and learning tips to continue that love and grow and expand as a couple for the rest of your life.
